HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Officials responded to a wildfire in Hays County on Saturday, according to the Hays County Office of Emergency Services website.

The wildfire, known as the Oak Grove Fire, was reported in the 200 block of Oak Grove Road in San Marcos. It is estimated at 300 acres and 10% contained around 7:30 p.m., according to the Hays County Office of Emergency Management (Hays OEM) and the Texas A&M Forest Service.

The fire jumped across the Blanco River and was actively burning on the north side, Texas A&M said. Aircraft will prioritize the area.

According to Texas A&M, the fire was very active, and structures were threatened. Additional aircraft was ordered to assist. Approximately 12 households were evacuated shortly before 6 p.m.

City of Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell said in a social media post that one home was destroyed, and several others were threatened. He also said that approximately 30 homes have been evacuated. There are moderate to heavy fire conditions, according to officials.

Hays OEM said dozers were on the ground constructing a fire line perimeter.

The National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio said on social media it could see the smoke plume from the fire at its office in New Braunfels.

For any homes that are being asked to evacuate due to the wildfire, the Promised Land Church is open as a temporary shelter, which is located at 1650 Lime Kiln Road, San Marcos, according to the Hays OEM.

Resources responding to the fire:

Additionally, one air attack platform, two helicopters, four single-engine air tankers, two scooper plans and one large air tanker were all on the scene, the Hays OEM said.

This developing story will be updated as more information comes in.
